Interactive Browsers

The YFCC100M Browser

Researchers at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the University of Kaiserslautern created an interactive browser for the YFCC100M dataset. The browser allows you to query the dataset in real time, where you can visualize the distribution of media with particular tags across users, times, and places; view the original media with those tags on Flickr; and download the metadata for your query results.

Citation: If you decide to use the interactive browser, please cite the following article that describes it in detail: S. Kalkowski, D. Borth, C. Schulze, and A. Dengel, “Real-time Analysis and Visualization of the YFCC100M Dataset”. In Proceedings of the ACM Multimedia 2015 Workshop on Community-Organized Multimodal Mining: Opportunities for Novel Solutions (MMCommons), 2015, pp. 25-30. The article is available here.

Multimedia Commons Search

The MMC search browser is an alternative way to search to explore all YFCC100M metadata as well as extensions like autotags (including probability scores), places, and videotags. This web page is still under active development though. Whereas its power of visualization and performance is not as good as for the YFCC100M browser, it comes with a more powerful search variety and will soon become open source (including the underlying search backend and index). Its images are linked to the data hosted on AWS and not Flickr, so in most cases there will be many fewer ‘image unavailable’ errors.
